Units of Study 2012-2013
Mrs. Agyeman's Science Class
(PHYSICAL SCIENCE)
Science Units Linked to Rubicon Atlas
|
Unit 1: Scientific MethodEssential Question
Students will recognize and understand that Scientific inquiry involves asking scientifically‐ oriented questions, collecting evidence, forming explanations, connecting explanations to scientific knowledge and theory, and communicating and justifying explanations. |
Unit 2: General ChemistryEssential Question
Overview (Enduring Understandings) In this unit, students will understand that matter has mass and takes up space. Energy can occur in different forms (light, heat, mechanical, electrical, chemical, etc.), and it is necessary to cause change or do work. |
Unit 3: Electricity & MagnetismEssential Questions
Students will develop an understanding that electricity in circuits can produce light, heat, sound, and magnetic effects. They will also comprehend that magnets attract and repel each other, as well as other kinds of materials. |
Unit 4: AstronomyEssential Questions
Overview (Enduring Understandings) Students will learn how the organization of the solar system can be used to understand the motion of the stars, sun, moon and planets in the sky. |
Unit 5: Forces & MotionEssential Question
Overview (Enduring Understandings) In this unit, students will explore how ALL organisms share similar characteristics and basic needs, but they also have differences that allow people to identify, describe and classify them. |
Unit 6: Sound & LightEssential Question
Overview (Enduring Understandings) In this unit students will learn that Light and Sound are very predictable because all waves have basic properties in common. Light waves can bend, bounce and separate into colors. Changes in vibrations cause sound waves to change pitch. |
